A shape-memory alloy, such as memory-steel®, “remembers” its original shape and alters its atomic crystalline structure when pre-tensioned in the longitudinal direction.
During activation (the heating process at the construction site), a deformation back to the original crystalline structure occurs. If this deformation is prevented by anchoring the ends to the concrete structure, prestressing occurs.
